The original Xbox WAS built like a tank. And cost about the same as a tank to manufacture, too. Hence why the new 360 was built with cheaper materials to ensure a low manufacturing cost.
Funny thing is, I've never had my launch day PS2 and PS1 die on me but my PS3 died, which is widely considered to be Sony's most reliable console to date.
