After years and years of annually releasing virtually the same game over and over can you blame my skepticism. You're right that they could be doing both but that's not what should be stated publicly IMO. How about the devs come out and say "Hey we think we've got something that will fresh up the series" or something similar. Then I'd be on board.
Would rather have the developers try to innovate the franchise for once instead of taking inspiration from a 6 year old game. Just a thought Ubisoft

It all goes back to the common argument of "risk vs reward". Everyone know MS's first party studio stable is no where near the other two, especially when it comes to single player. MS just doesn't take risks, which is quite ironic considering they are the more wealthy of the the console manufactures by light-years. Even Nintendo making a third person shooter like Splatoon was more of a risk that anything from MS's first party. That right there tells you a lot.
I think that's the point of scripted SP games. Take The Last of Us for example. I've played through that game at least 4 times because the experience you get going through the journey of Joel and Ellie is unlike anything of any game I've ever played. On the MP side you have games like CoD, Battlefield, DOOM, Overwatch etc etc. Those games are generally the same in concept. The war for this generation is over so it really shouldn't matter what is more powerful. It won't change Sony's dominance in the market which is what is truly important.
Excellent article and agree 100%. Sony is so in touch with what it's fanbase wants and they stick with what they're great at which is single player, story driven experiences. I want to see more of Days Gone, especially the multiplayer. Zombie games are usually a turn off but hopefully Sony Bend has developed something that stands out from the rest. I could see a GTA style multiplayer with zombies, that would be nice.
Hopefully Farpoint will be as great as we need it to be. While PSVR does have some great experiences, this game if done right could really help PSVR sales. Could be Sony's first VR franshise.
