I'm wondering if a search function is one factor in Sony being hesitant on allowing cross play. Also there's online abuse, and I'm sure Nintendo, Sony, and Xbox have different variants of what constitutes online abuse. There's too many factors the majority aren't really thinking about, just play online with others. How will you add someone you like to your list of online friends? Not many people think about those types of situations.
Story, game play, and replay are more important to me; not how easy/hard a game is.
This is one of those moments where the player base needs to be careful on what you wish for, because you will get exactly what you ask for. You want cross play, but need to be more specific in what specifically you want in cross play.

No love lost if you switch consoles. I don't defend Sony on this because I do agree playing across platforms would be a nice addition, however I'm not going to switch platforms just because a few games aren't allowed cross play while other games are.
