I don't think combat was better, as parry become weird in DS2, but I do agree that it did a few things better. DS1 is still the better game by a long margin, though.

I know I might be part of some minority group here, but I found both XII and XIV to be truly amazing games - I'd even go as far as to say their are among the best games I've ever played.

I'm not so sure about it anymore. I'm both a action/rpg and a final fantasy fan, but the combat in XV's demo really made me feel like I'm jumping off the hype train a bit.
I'm still interested, but now I wont be surprised if it turns out to be a big disappointment.

I wont touch it even if there was a demo. And they've taken that resolution on my behalf when they decided that their new shooter should be a resident evil game. F*** that sh!t.
While I do agree with your line of thought, I also think that we, as customers, can only speak with our wallets. So you're not saying "don't buy their game", at the same time you say that we should let them know that this is unaceptable. And how does that works, exactely? Complaining in their tweeter account?
I hope so. I love the game, and a sequel could build on what the first one did really well and adress the complaints that divided most gamers, making it something really remarkable. We could see a jump like AC - AC2 here.
