"What AS is showing in her tropes videos is that developers are falling into stereotypical cliches which show women in a less than favorable light."
You say that like this is some rising epidemic of a problem, Ginganinja. When, in fact, the opposite is true if you look at how the industry has grown over the years.
I'm not a big fan of Anita Sarkeesian or those who support her. I'll tell you why:
1.Most of the games she shows...
don't have to tell me!
For a second there, I thought it was going to say that he was leaving because he got too much backlash for supporting that god awful invisible privileges video.
Glad that isn't the case. I hold Greg Miller as the most recognizable and entertaining face of IGN. Now that he's leaving, it's going to take someone really special to change that image for me.
But that'd be like someone trying to replace RDJ as Iron Man.
Again, Anti-Gamergate. You're being used. You're being used by ethically breached journalists trying to sell books to you, you're being used by devs who pretend to back you just to raise money for "charity" projects, when they own the "charities" and are taking all the money themselves, you're being used to garner site hits and it's all based on twisting the truth. If you see a claim either for our against GG, do your own research. Verify! Get informed ...
"any time any mention that half of gamers are female, here they come with the "they only play casual games and so they aren't gamers""
mobile gaming and home console gaming aren't interchangeable. You can't use that statistic to try to change who home console games are designed to appeal to. This is a matter of what kind of gamer it is, not whether it's real or not. Please refer to GokuSoloall's excellent point above about generalizing ...
I wish we could all have a solid debate about this. No more echo chambers, no more lies, no more one-sided reporting. You actually have to defend and prove what you say.
Oh wait, that can't happen. SJW's and all that.
Yes and no... but more on the no side, really.
People who play on mobile and people who play on home console are two completely different kinds of gamers. Just because they share a handful of games doesn't automatically make them interchangeable platforms.
Would Angry Birds have sky-rocketed to become the same phenomenon if it had debuted on and remained within the home console space?
I don't like discriminating against one or the ot...
I'm not against calling mobile gamers "gamers", or for calling mobile games "games", but you need to understand that trying to use this bogus statistic in an argument for appealing to women in the home console space is indeed laughable.
We're talking about too COMPLETELY different arenas here. You think all those women spending a few dollars on the cute and casual Candy Crush will suddenly start buying home consoles or gaming PC's in droves jus...
Ah, comedy, it let's us take a good look at ourselves without having to worry about offending anyone in the process.
What gamergate argument? There are a lot of them.
Are you talking about the overall belief? Because the overall Gamergate consensus is that Gaming Media has become unethical. With what we've seen, it's kinda hard not to think so, even as an observer.
I... I do't even think I should click the link. The title alone is depressing.
How long are we going to keep this "Boy's Club" and "keep women out" narrative going? It's just as others have pointed out: gaming started out as something that appealed almost exclusively to men and young boys. Not because they were the ones being targeted, but because they were the ones BUYING the bloody games. It's a matter of going where the money is, not exc...
What a beautiful comment. :,)
In reply to your second comment: YES. Yes, he would talk about it.
You're talking about the same guy who tore into Microsoft for pulling the same thing with Tomb Raider. In fact, he even dedicated a number of videos to ranting over the Xbox One back when it was being revealed.
That, and he's made it a point on numerous occasions that he doesn't care for console wars and thinks they're for 12 year olds.
That leads me to conclud...
@LeCreuset
I agree that Joe shouldn't have used the video, but... Joe was going to tear into Capcom regardless if he accepted the assets from Capcom to make the video before everyone else. His fans were going to tune in to listen to his rant regardless. I don't know what they were expecting from him. They should've known he was the last person to go to after what they've pulled. Do some research next time, Capcom.
Also, "has nothing to do...
And millions of Street Fighter fans who made the mistake of buying Xbox Ones will either have to shell out another $400 or just not play a game they've been supporting (and all its re-releases) for years on Xbox 360.
Multi-platform games flip-flopping with exclusivity seem to becoming a rising concern right now, but screw talking about it because the game is going to be successful anyway right?
It's not like Capcom had to try and shut this guy up beca...
get paid? become an agent? I thought they just sent him a trailer and told him to talk about it with his fans.
Again, that's just my narrow-minded understanding of what's happening. I didn't realize Capcom worked with Joe because he's the equivalent of a PR company. I thought they did it because he was a well-known Youtuber with over a million fans following him. My apologies.
Why would that idiot say bad things about a product he was paid to ...
Gears of War never changed its exclusivity. Also, Titanfall and Ryse were both new IP. The only example that's relevant is Dead Rising, as that built a following on PS3 with DR2 before they turned it right back into an exclusive on Xbox One with DR3.
Lastly, you seem to be arguing for third party exclusives in general. That's not the problem here. Third Party exclusivity isn't a problem when the game is a new IP that's bought and paid for. However, it IS a pro...
I hope you didn't nap long enough for an image of Destiny to burn into your screen.
You're comment just about echoes my sentiment as well. As much as I rag on the story (because I was expecting more of a player-driven space epic), I still found the actual gameplay to be engaging enough to the point of addiction for a while.
As for the game's development, I'd heard there were shady happenings going on, indeed. Just about every reviewer I trust has pointed that out. Then again, anyone who watches all the dev diaries can see how much the game has ch...
Hear, hear! Couldn't have said it better myself, sir!
Although I can't blame you, Chris, for wanting to get the site back on track, Gamergate is too important to be allowed to be brushed aside.
The fact that so many sites are refusing to take a stand to this, or at least represent it as it is, is truly disheartening.
Oh well, we still have Youtube:
