The fact that both sold out just means there are people that really want the consoles, but it doesn’t tell you anything about the level of demand in the general gaming community. This study uses a sample cross section of gamers to represent the whole. As long as they eliminate the variables, they can predict facts about the larger population with a 3% margin of error. (Assuming they did their homework, which they probably did here since study was by a market research company)

The study was conducted by a market research company VGM, not a retailer as you keep saying.

A sample size that can be representative of the whole so long as variables are eliminated. Yes.

The study wasn’t based on what percent bought the console. It was a study of the demand for each console. As long as the pool was representative, the findings are legit.

That’s not what they did at all. It’s not even a retailer that did the study. Have you read the article yet?

Because you might have a million people who really want one, but that doesn’t mean that there is just as much demand in the general population as a whole.

It could be. Depends on the measures taken to keep the sample size representative.

You may be right if the sample is not representative. Obviously the larger the sample size, the more likely that the pool is representative of the whole. But that doesn’t mean the sample size being what it is here means that it’s not. As long as they took measures to eliminate variables, it could be representative of the whole. To me, even if this is remotely representative, that is a huge disparity.

Holy crap! That is insane! I knew they would outsell, but that is a significant margin!

Give me the special edition covers now! I think purple & gold mix and match is in order.

It’s more hyperbole subjective wording from PR. Means nothing, doesn’t inform you one bit, and there is no way to disprove it, because no one can say what a behemoth translates to in this context, so they can make whatever claim they want.

What is interesting is that MS seems to be doing the same exact thing as last gen, except now they are patting themselves on the shoulder.

That made my neck hair stand up

Wait is t the bigger news the part about ray tracing?

Well, knowing that PlayStation delivers more games via exclusives, it’s a no brained. Nothing wrong with getting a second console though.

Love it. I can’t wait to start the next generation

Well if you have to ask...

2000d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

The fact that this question can even be asked means the difference is not significant enough to call the series S a new gen console.

Thankfully, Sony doesn’t make games in response to what MS does. They just make games.
