I get what you're saying and honestly, I;d be lying if I said many of those were the best shooters ever made. They happen to be the ones I enjoyed the most. That's why it's my "favorite" shooters rather than the best ones.
Sigh.
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom (Briefly admittedly)
Star Wars: Jedi Knight
Duke Nukem 3D
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis
No One Lives Forever
GoldeneEye
Perfect Dark
Half-Life
Resistance: Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Killzone 2
Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Call of Duty 4: Modern War...
You know, I actually really like that idea. I'll have to try and integrate that into future pieces. Any game's in particular you'd like to see my talk to someone about?
It's unfortunate though, if the article came across as being hateful. For what it's worth, I actually enjoyed Code Veronica and still consider it a fun romp through zombie land. I just happen to dislike a lot of the elements within the story and the way it helped to change the tone of th...
See, I didn't hate Code Veronica. It was still an entertaining game , but it just wasn't as good as earlier entries.
I feel the same way about the more recent games. I enjoyed Resident Evil 4, but not in the same way and not to the same extent. I can pick and play through Resident Evil 2 any time and still love it. After reaching that castle with the midget on my third playthrough, I was ready to be done with RE4.
Hey, I (said wacky author) agree that Code Veronica's a good game, but it has a lot of stupid stuff in it. The GC remake of Resident Evil, Resident 2 and Nemesis easily outclass it in my book.
And yeah, Resident Evil 4 was intense and even scary at parts, but for most of the game I think it was more of straightforward shooter than a horror game. And a shooter with too much dumb stuff for my taste. I don't care what fancy training Leon has had, he should not be a sup...
Well come on! What were you thinking!
"Oh, those first times were flukes, what are the odds of it happening again?"
How about some safety standards with your zomibifying bioweapon!
I never got around to Double Dash. Didn't have a GameCube. I love the N64 game though. It's at least superior to the Wii one.
It's funny, I thought Heavy Rain was more deserving of an average score than many of the titles that actually do. As you mentioned Lykon, 3D Dot Game Heroes, while not perfect, was easily more engaging as a whole then Heavy Rain and yet reviewers for the most part were laying thick praise on the latter of the two.
Another one I'm playing right now that I'm liking despite "bad" scores is Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume. It's not perfect, bu...
GameStop has that buy 2 get 1 free sale going on. Maybe I'll need to stop in.
Well, let it never be said that I don’t listen to feedback. After reading several comments and looking up “jumping the shark” a bit further, I have decided to change the name of this bit to “What Were They Thinking?”
It’s not quite as catchy, but I think it gets the point across just as well and isn’t quite as specific as “jump the shark.”
Essentially, what I’m going for are just moments of utter stupidity in otherwise great games.

To call him Jar-Jar may be a bit too far.
Raiden honestly had potential, Jar-Jar at most could amount to a steaming pile of puke.
Aggh! I bought two used games last week!
This is just like when they were giving double the trade in credit and it started up the day after I traded in two games.
GameStop tries to keep this stuff hush hush to screw over morons like me!
Oops. I'll have to remember to run this through spell check before posting my next one.
I honestly wouldn't have taken as many issues with Raiden if it weren't for the ship scene. That is what I think really "jumped the shark." Metal Gear Solid has always had elements of the fantastic mixed in, and for the most part they have worked well. In the end they were even able to make the whole "posessed by an arm" thing, which is impressive.
It's not the personality change, it's the lengths they went to make him "cool."
Namely, the Arsenal Gear scene. It was atrocious.
Should have made the list longer lol.
Anyone play J'eanne D'arc. I heard it was really good but picked up FFTactics at the time.
I have wanted to play Killzone: Liberation. I'll have to check it out.
Haven't played those unfortunately. I'll have to check them out!
You see, my problem is I like to own things. I can do the Netflix thing just fine, but I have an aversion to renting games. Maybe it's because when I was a kid I never got to anything BUT rent them.
I really like it. There's so much content, I rarely have that feeling of waiting twenty minutes to play five. That said, I dislike how they simplified the stealth and the CQC. Taking out crawling was completely unnecessary and dumbed things down a bit too much. And why can't I slit people's throats anymore? Stupid T rating...
While I could do without the 3D (not a fan in general) the graphical capabilities of the 3DS really impressed me and kind of strip the PSP of its one great advantage over the DS. Sony's going to have to work hard to keep the PSP competetive after this. The only other logical move is to release a more powerful replacement, which honestly I could also do without. The PSP works fine as is, it just needs a steadier stream of quality content.
Exactly, lol. I am so glad I was around when gaming was making the transition from 2D to 3D. It was so exciting, even if the old stuff looks terrible nowadays.
I tell you, these whippersnappers today will never experience something equivilant to that.
