A great score. Looking forward to this game as my Wii recently saw a revitalization of sorts as I've been playing A Boy and his Blob. Fantastic game.
Edit @ below
A Boy and his Blob may be one of the best game's I've played this year. I don't know if it's nostalgia but it's right up there. The art style is fantastic and the puzzles are really creative and challenging. It's just a fun game to just relax and get lost in.
People are overreacting because of a comments Michael Pachter made in the closing seconds of a Bonus Round discussion. I really don't think XBL will see an increase in the cost of Gold membership. If anything, Silver members will be offered specific subscriptions to those features and functions of interest to them.
Great score. Destructoid gave the game a 8.5.
I take your point but it's more idealistic than practical. Naughty Dog didn't take a risk, they're a first party developer. Succeed or fail, they have the support of not only the console's manufacturer but one of the gaming industries largest publishers. An independent developer like Gearbox can't take that same risk. First they would have to find a publisher willing to commit the time and money to the effort and even then, the success of the final product isn't guaranteed. It's disheartening...
They weren't great games. And sales does matter because how can you justify a sequel to a game that doesn't exactly have a fanbase? If Kojima's name wasn't attached to the title, there wouldn't be a fanbase at all because the games were niche titles that were average. A game with a metascore under 90 this gen isn't worth buying but you fanboys clamor for a sequel to an average game. I don't get that.

No developer or publisher, including Microsoft, is going to spend the money to build a custom engine to match the likes of Uncharted 2. It just doesn't make any sense. Batman: Arkham Asylum, Mass Effect 2, Borderlands, all built using a middleware engine for a fraction of the cost and time it would take to build your own with impressive results. So what's the incentive to do so? I don't think graphics are the focus of the XBox 360 community because Left 4 Dead and Halo 3 are two of the consol...
Did people really enjoy Zone of the Enders that much? The first game wasn't that great and while The 2nd Runner was better than the first it still wasn't a major success. No one actually bought the games either. Are people really interested in a Zone of the Enders 3 or are there just that many Kojima fanboys out there?
Edit: Disagree all you want. Neither game was great and neither game sold well. Besides the anime inspired visuals and cutscenes, The 2nd Runner is absolutely fo...
Pachter really has proven that he's very much out of touch with the video game industry. He's a financial analyst with little to no insider knowlege since he's usually wrong save a few educated guesses. I don't know why his opinion is given so much credence where the video game industry is concerned.
I don't think Killzone 3 will likely be released so soon. I know Sony would like to get as many of their exclusive franchise to market as soon as possible after the early gen delays but Resistance 3 seems more likely. I don't see both being released in 2010.
Edit @ Hellsvacancy
I know the developing the engine was what slowed development but I really don't see Sony releasing 3 FPS franchises in 2010. Especially Killzone 3 and Resistance 3, two of it's biggest fr...
Borderlands is nothing like Fallout 3 and has been in development as long as Fallout 3 has. Fallout 3 emphasizes choice while Borderlands' focus is on combat and loot. The only similarities are the wasteland setting.
Your biggest assumption is that Game of the Year is decided by metacritic. It isn't. Game of the Year is decided by longstanding video game media, with many of the blogs and smaller sites and publications excluded. While I don't think Halo 3: ODST is a viable Game of the Year candidate, the majoring of the major gaming media gave the game impressively high scores. IGN, Gamespot, Game Informer, 1Up, Gamepro, Computer and Video Games, G4TV and Edge, all scored the game 90 or higher.
Not a bad score. I'm looking forward to this game. From all the media I've seen, I know it's the type of game for me and a game I'll enjoy.
LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2. You know, games that are suppose to sell a system but don't?
Okay let me explain it again for you fanboys who lack common sense; I don't care what some Sony executive said, no company can accurately report the number of hardware sold directly to consumers. The only way to accurately do so would be if every single person self reported, which they do not. That's a fact.
The difference is, if the two expansions weren't successful, Rockstar would have to pay Microsoft the 50 million back.
With a 100 million dollar budget for GTAIV, I'm surprised it only cost 50 million dollars to produce The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony. Have any of you PS3 fanboys even played The Lost and Damned? It's a hell of a package with 30 hours of content. These two "expansions" have the content and production values of retail AAA titles. One a PS3 fanboy or an idiot would believe this guy's silly claims.
The problem with Mass Effect 2 on the PC is that when EA bought BioWare, they had to make a deal with Microsoft to publish Mass Effect on the PC and the deal with Microsoft was to publish Mass Effect on PC and future Mass Effect titles. I would think Microsoft would have taken steps then to protects it's interest, which is probably what the timed exclusivity. But what's the point without the first and it seems Microsoft didn't allow them to publish the first on the PS3 or they would have alre...
Have both games on my PS2 which I still have, I probably wont get this.
@ Darkeyes
Are you my newest fangirl now?
While I do agree with the guy, he doesn't really make a good argument for himself. Not the most eloquent person to argue the PSP Go's case.
There's never been a bad Ratchet and Clank game. If anything Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is one of the most underrated games on the PS3 as it never gets mentioned when talking about the best games on the console.
