Three things that Battlefield 3 and Frostbite 2.0 do that suggest that it'll be able to handle this without having to go to sli. I think that depending on resolution my 570 will be up to the task of rendering this monster all the way up to 1080p.

1. No Legacy Code
- Frostbite 2 is built from the ground up to take
advantage of the benefits of the DX11 pipeline
including such small things as compute shaders...

People talk about how Samaritan ran on 3 580's but as Epic stated they could probably get it running on a Ti 560 with good optimization. Some of the features in the samaritan demo are seen elsewhere, such as the bokeh depth of field.

With battlefield we'll see displacement tesselation used on distant geometry as well, to create detail in hills and mountains.

Not even close to photoreal. It looks way better than what we've had before but there's still so far to go.

I think games need to aim to be more than simple mindless fun today.

Crysis 2 looks better than everything except maybe Uncharted 2 and there's nothing that says this is console only so the omission of Witcher 2 is a grave sin.

I'm sorry, is that what lulzsec has done? to anyone? You can let me know when that's what these guys do.

No, what I'm saying, and what you fail to be comprehending, is that you're taking a rather hypocritical stance about the safety of your particular personal information when you give it out so freely all the time to people who definitely do not have your best interests at heart and who definitely use that information in order to generate profit.

Imagine that the internet is not inherently analagous to a physical place and you might be greatly helped in your analogies.

The targetting of lulzsec speaks of an entirely different motivation than profit.

Furthermore break-in robberies are in essence crimes of force which have the unfortunate habit of escalating into real physical violence against human beings and as such represent a completely different phenomenon.

Perhaps you would have...

It doesn't seem like that big of a deal. I mean you hand over your entire life to Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook to sell to whoever they want. Why then does it matter that some hackers were able to get a little information on companies and/or governments in order to prove their security is not up to snuff?

The fact that people get so fucking pissed off about these guys calling them terrorists and whatnot when most folk don't even know what's going on underneath the...

Concept art is not a screenshot. Blizzard Entertainment released 2 pieces of concept art and a screenshot.

I wouldn't expect Unreal 3 games to use much of this tech TBH. The performance hit for most of what's going on is pretty serious. Samaritan seems like "oh shit everybody else is showing off next-gen tech we need to show something too" and then that's the last we hear of it until Unreal 4 on next gen consoles.

I'm hearing even Diablo 3 will launch. The Witcher 2 is PC only but looks incredible.

I doubt Resistance 3 will take it but Uncharted and Gears both stand a shot.

It's Battlefield 3, as in proper Battlefield and not Bad Company. Different flavor and a lot of pent up excitement rides on that distinction.

Also there's LA Noire coming up on us shortly.

AND MORE!

Whatever the decision it's going to be a knock-down drag out. Consider that Diablo 3 may actually launch this year as well.

WHY ARE YOU ON THE INTERNET WHEN YOU COULD BE OUT THERE GIVING ORGANS AND VOLUNTEERING TO SAVE LIVES AND SHIT?

That's what I think every time someone makes a comment like yours.

The only thing I'll say is that here and elsewhere it doesn't exactly seem to be Sony's reputation that is being damaged. In fact they seem to be benefitting quite healthily from the events in terms of public opinion, all in spite of the downtime.

...Can you provide evidence that they didn't use shamanistic rituals to purge the spirits from PSN thus causing it to crash? I didn't think so.

Burden of proof falls to those making the positive claim.

I hear anonymous is also responsible for global warming aaand.... rape. Yes, all rape, for forever. Indirectly responsible is what I mean to say and you can't prove me wrong.

Either have the guts to say you think anonymous did it directly or shut the fuck up admitting you don't know what's going on. Saying they're indirectly responsible when you don't have a good goddamn clue what the fuck is going on just makes you look like a petulant child. You don'...

Memory isn't only used by textures in texture space bro.

full on deferred renderers make fat frame buffers with a number of render targets. A buffer for your normals, for your diffuse, for your specular, etc etc, maybe you want to have a special buffer for indexing shader permutations?

MAYBE you want to calculate a dynamic lightmap of indirect lighting in real time. Memory is once again required. Perhaps you'd like to raycast into a sparse voxel octr...
