If I was Microsoft I would sell the Xbox brand to be able to pour more money into their PC district, which is where the real money is at. However, too a company like MS diversifying is never a bad thing.
First I would like to say that I have taken great thought into considering which console to buy and I will buy an X1. I am not trolling, and here are my reasons:
It simply is the fact that for me the X1 seems to have more features. Although I know the PS4 is more powerful I really don't think that exclusive games on each console will be very different. If they are it will be 5-6 years down the line in which I will be able to simply buy a PS4.

Yup. You've got it right. For us gamers it is important for some reasons that they win this fictitious war but adults in the real world simply don't care.
The question is simply:
Will MS turn a profit? If yes buy stock for future selling. If no do not buy stock.

How do we "all know it". I actually think it unlikely that the One will fail as horribly as predicted by PS4 fans. I remember when people thought the PS3 would fail, hell I even remember when the disk man was a joke.
Would I buy MS stocks before the console comes out? Yes, for obvious reasons. The stocks will go up even if they "lose" the "war" to Sony. Although Microsoft may lose the console war this gen I doubt it will be a crushing financial blow if anything.
Even though they have apparently invested well over a billion dollars on the One this gen it is minute compared to their over all fortune.
