What they can do is change the PSN name that is linked to your account, your account being your wallet, download list, subscriptions, etc. Your PSN ID is the username of the financial side of the account. I've yet to play the last of us, and I had a PS3 last gen too. The best deal I saw on it was around the holidays last year for $12, but that was digital only. Still wasn't enough to justify a purchase when I have enough games sitting on the shelf I have yet to open.
Single player components of games is permanent. You can always have the same experience tens of years later. A mp only game tens of years later is just worth it's memory, assuming the servers are shut
