No but you can "own" a movie when you stream over youtube, vudu, movies anywhere, playstation, xbox, etc while this system is flawed it mostly works. I still have access to all the movies I've purchased over the last nearly 15 years. What you're comparing streaming to is more like game pass over xcloud. Where I'm talking more about titles you purchase.
Ultimately this is why cloud gaming will become more and more prevalent as time goes on. It's both exciting and scary. Exciting because these technologies over time will truly be great. Scary because it will really transform what it means to "own" a game. Corporations can take advantage of that in nefarious ways as they have done before.

If MS has Millions of Gamepass Users on PC and on Phones and tablets then yes it's absolutely important. If these players are playing games in addition to console player then those are Xbox users. To be clear these are in reference to MAU which means these are all unique users. I personally play my Gamepass content on PC and I stopped playing on xbox years ago. MS has indicated that they are using subscribers as a measurement of success for themselves.
The article specifies that XBOX Series X will outsell the PS5 by a factor of 2 by Christmas. Everything you're saying is true but XBOX doesn't have enough Series X stock to outsell the ps5 by this much.

I'd argue MS has been building good faith for the last 2-3 years. No one can deny gamepass is a solid deal without looking like a crazy person. Combine that with all the very pro-consumer moves they've been making, they're definitely showing. Will it all pay off is another question. I don't think it will pay off this gen but I think they're positioning themselves for the future.
I don't think it's crazy as you make it out to be. They clearly feel that nioh fits into the genre that from soft created, which isn't a stretch. Then on Demon's Souls being the lowest ranked, it's the oldest game. Now my personal opinion is that Dark Souls 2 is the worst and I'm not a fan of nioh my self.
