Agreed. I got my 60GB PS3 once i had heard Sony was starting to take out or rather reduce BC in Europe. It was only a matter of time before BC was all but gone. BC isn't THE reason i got a PS3 but it was ONE of the reasons as i do have a large PS1/2 library i still play.
I think that in time we will see all Playstation system libraries go digital anyway.
I don't have the links to back me up but was it not true that taking out BC did little to nothing to reduce the co...
Not sure what you would need HDMI for in a system like this unless your planning some ultimate HTPC?
And there is even less need for blu-ray. Optical media is outdated. Flash and digital downloads is where Apple is going (mostly DD).
I bought my first mac back in Jan08. At the time mine was $1799cdn. I did a comparison of a windows based pc with comparable specs inculding a 24" monitor. The iMac after taxes worked out to about $100 more.
For that extra $100, I feel like i ripped off Apple.
I've never enjoyed using a computer so much in my life.
Well then it pleases me to inform you PDO has been compatible on the 360 for quite some time, almost 2 years i think?

I agree with most of what your saying leon except for one thing maybe two. the first being an internal HDD. I don't see the point of this for a handheld. Battery life is king and something like this would only add to the cost/bulk/price. All things a portable system has to be economical on.
A better solution is to just have two Memory stick pro duo slots. One slot is for storage (pics, movies game saves etc.) and the other is for the games that we buy. BTW for this example i'm thi...
I loved Mirror's edge too. But the cost of a game is not related to it's length. Not too mention everyone has different levels of skill so just because you may have finished Mirror's edge or whatever else in less then 10 hours could take someone else 20 for example.
If the system worked liked that then top players would get games cheap and not so good players would pay top dollar. Not only does that not make sense but it's not fair.
HD-DVD - Yes
Digital Downloads are just getting started.
Why games of course! So many on PS3 so we gotta put them somewhere lol.
I have the 60GB model and with about 15 PSN and 27 Disc games...yeah, it all adds up quick.
I have to disagree with you Sir. Not every game takes up a full 50gb.My internet connection is about the same as yours actually and it takes less time for me to download (Burnout Paradise for example only took me 20min) then it does for me to go buy it from the store.
Personally I find all this talk about download speeds and caps a bunch of crap and nonsense. I just don't buy it. Maybe because i live in canada things are different here I don't know but I just don't get all the ha...
I'm not sure but I think you may have shot yourself in the foot with your examples. When everyone of those happened didn't PS3 hardware sales go up? True the PS3 has not yet over taken the 360 in terms of installed base but in order to do that then wouldn't the PS3 need to keep the games coming like it did in 2007 and in 2008? 2009 looks to be another great year for the PS3 and i will wager the PS3 will match or over take the 360.
With every year the PS3 gets more and more games ...
I disagree with all 3 of you. My copy of warhawk on my HDD is as real as any disk. I have no intention of getting rid of it nor would I go to a friends house to play it. The year is 2008, not 1998. Online gaming is here and in full swing.
Second when your libraries get to the 500 mark like mine did all those years ago you will realize just how pointless physical media is.
Buttertoast, there is nothing WORSE then than going to the store for a game you've been waiting ...
I can't see Sony using Blu-ray again for the PS4. Historically Sony has used a new medium with every one of there consoles. Blu-ray is fine for movies and it will stay that way for awhile.
Agree with your second statement there lokmessier. Just because some greedy publisher nickels and dimes it's own customers doesn't mean Digital Distribution is flawed. I'm pretty sure most of the content that became available for SCIV was already on the disk ( In other words you already paid for it) and Namco forced users to pay to unlock it which is of course BS. One reason i never bought the game.
I disagree.
I have had a complete shift on content ownership. It came about slowly over that time, but unmistakable.
BD is in a death spiral for me. I may buy my absolute favorite movies, but that will likely result in maybe 3 disks a year. Now, I just feel ownership is all a waste of money and that likely the amount of money I spend for owning a physical copy of any media no longer carries the same weight it once did.
This all came about looking at my...
While i'm game for fun speculation like this article has done, I just can't see Sony using any optical based media for the PS4.
I think Sony has learned it's lesson going with such expensive components and will instead go with a medium that is cheaper, faster and more reliable like there own Memory stick duo (or whatever flash media they have then). The advantages of Flash media over Optical are just too numerous to pass up.
@3.4
It's not so much that. I think what he was getting at is most of us just don't want to wave our arms around like monkeys trying to cast Fire2. :P
You will never get a PC rig as silent as an iMac and it has fans....i think? i can't tell it's so god damn quiet.
The amount of time and money you have to go too to get a PC to be as silent as a Mac is just a waste imho.
I'm glad I didn't go that route.
VIsta loads in a 15 secs? Not a chance. If this was about OSX then yes. I have it and it DOES load in less then 15 secs flat. Pista just doesn't compare.
Only Windows users live with boot problems or re-install Windows and start again.
Agreed. I prefer downloading (legit of course) myself. I think a lot of folks are mistaking this article. It's not so much a PS3 without blu-ray we wouldn't have HD content, we would. It's just it would come on or in another form.
True DVD isn't big enough but Flash tech is matching optical in terms of capacity and it's prices are always falling too. I would love the PS4 or whatever Sony calls it to use Memory Stick Pro Duo for it's games. But thats a ways off still.
I was going to say the exact same thing. There is nothing wrong with having a choice.
@ MR Tretton
Who says? With downloads it opens up a far more appealing world. With trading in you are not actually trading, your pawning and getting very little in return.
With downloads i would like to be able to trade my game for another with another player on the PSN. Or sell it online via Home to other PSN users.
Weather or not Sony would setup a metho...
