Oh trust me, I realized that long before any of these systems when Atari was pumping out awesome titles like Chase the Chuck Wagon. It's just more prevalent now when everyone's screaming "EXCLUSIVE!!" and you look at the Wii which is trouncing both of the other systems in that arena but hardly any of the games look like they're worth my time.
Man, the Wii has showed me that quantity does not equate quality in that list of games.

I wouldn't say it looks better than Gears of War, but it certainly looks better than a lot of people give it credit for. Especially the particle effects in the burning temple and the jungle later on before the giant enemy crab battle. If it hadn't been rushed for launch it could have been much more than what it was, considering the first Genji kicked some ass. Crystal Dynamics seemed to have rebooted the stale franchise with Legend, I hope they tighten up the gunplay for this one and throw some inventive puzzles in. Lara just might make it in this gen if so.

I think they already allow you to put your own pic on the background, my friend has Borat on all of his blades. But outside of that, you're right they don't let you tinker with it. I hope Sony has something down the pipeline for more visualizations in audio, they look cool for when I do use them when cleaning up the house, parties, etc.

But it was used in the first Deus Ex (Invisible War too), and more recently your beloved Mass Effect. The engine is good and always has been, but it's still up to the devs to really harness what's inside and take advantage of it.
I just love the XMB, I was already used to using it extensively for the PSP and now the PS3. It just works, and the themes are pretty sweet too WHEN DONE CORRECTLY. They probably have to reduce that ram footprint some more before allowing us to use animated themes and backgrounds though. The Dashboard is awesome too, I remember when I first got my 360 I was playing around in it for a while before starting a game, it just needs to more customization features.
