I say release a remastered trilogy then work on a reboot for the series instead of continuing where the third one left off.
They could go the god of war route and reboot it from scratch. I think it could be an excellent game with the right direction

There's no legitimate knock on mafia 3. A lot of ignorant mouthy morons crucified it because the main protagonist wasn't Italian. But the characters and story are great.
Mafia 3 is excellent going through it now. Way better campaign than any GTA.
