FYI Sony is bigger than Microsoft, assets-wise
I'm not bashing the ps3 or anything, but I'm guessing right around the same number of people that bought extra 360s bought a ps3 just for the whole "best (and cheapest for a chunk of time) blu-ray player by far" feature...
It seems people have entered Sony into a race it won't run.
Sony couldn't care less about the other companies, they're there to make money and last throughout their 10 year plan. Theres no use sprinting at the beginning of a marathon, and all good runners know that, and Sony seems to know that. Sony is racing themselves, not Microsoft, but Microsoft and everyone else seems to think this marathon is a 100 yard dash racing against everyone else.
And to that comment, I say Fail.

It's a win-win situation- better PR, tax breaks (or at least a green incentive), plus you get free-ish materials... except for the cost of actually running the recycling centers I don't see why more companies aren't doing things like this.

Yea, but you can't take the ps3s out of the picture- some are used as standalone players and if the ps3 didn't exist those people would have bought a different blu-ray player...

Yohan, the myth of SSDs not lasting as long as their HDD counterparts is a myth, they last longer and have a much higher shock/drop resistance than HDDs
Well for me I would have had to bought a wifi adapter, and that was one of the major points for me not going through the hassle of getting ripped off by microsoft to buy it and attach it myself, so I got a ps3
