I think two $50 price drops in one year will be much more effective than one $100 one.
1) Sony will sell some for $50 more in between price drops rather than lose $100 revenue per console in one go.
2) It will get people to see the PS3 dropping in price twice, and if Sony gets it right, it will be twice as much publicity.
