That's a very good point. After all, the GameCube and Xbox destroyed the PS2 when they came out, and the PSP and Vita destroyed the DS and 3DS when they came out.

The GameCube went up against the juggernaut that is the PS2, this is not the same situation lol.
PS2 launched before the Gamecube and used DVD's, which meant a lot more people went for the PS2 since they could play their movies on it, and it got more 3rd party games.
With the Wii U, it has no competition right now, and near the holiday season it could very well already have an install base of 7-10 million, while the 720 and PS4 will have install bases of...

You can rightfully say it's in dying status once 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Zelda, Wii Fit U, Xenoblade 2, and Retro's game are out and it's STILL not selling. THEN the Wii U will be doomed at that point.

I agree FF7 is a bit of a stretch, but this game, which was a brand new IP at the time:
1) Sold 800,000 copies,
2) While being GameStop exclusive in the West
3) Had limited supplies (go see how much the game costs now)
4) And was pirated over 1,000,000 times.
So it would've sold A LOT more than just the 800k it sold, so it was a fairly popular game and is very critically acclaimed, especially in Japan.
IS flash storage cheap though? Last time I checked internal flash storage is much more expensive per-gig than HDDs.

I think we're all forgetting that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate has been out for the 3DS since 2011, and handhelds are bigger than consoles in Japan, that's why MH3U didn't do much for the Wii U.
Also, Dragon Quest 10 has been out on the Wii for a while now, so most people picked it up on the Wii.
