I disagree.

If Sony thought external HDD support was that much of a threat, they would've issued a firmware update to have it completely removed from the PS3, a long time ago. They didnt seem to have any hesitations when removing OtherOS support, when they thought that was a threat. External HDD support has much less to do with piracy, and more to do with trying to CONTROL how the consumer can interact with their merchandise, by limiting your options.

Funny you should bring this up...

Because PS3 had PlayStation Home, that featured fully customizable avatars in a completely immersive 3D world and environment. It was the equivalent of Second Life, for PS3...minus the adult themes and nudity and it was the maximum essence of SOCIAL integration. It was a venue for finding other gamers, around the country and world...making friends, hanging out and talking to them, all the while enjoying the mini games and exciting new spaces ...

Why? o_O

Skype, whether on XB1 or PS4...is an OPTION. You DONT have to use it. Ever. PS3 supported video chat, if you had a cam. Doesnt mean you have to use it.

While I respect your opinion...

I believe the PS4 can be BOTH, a social console, a gaming console, and a media console. It's not for lack of tech, thats for sure. A simple firmware update would allow for all the PS3's media features to be transferred over to the PS4. Dont forget...people like to have options, not alternatives. Give me the OPTION to copy, download, save, stream and play media from my PS4...even if I may not use it NOW, I might decide to use it later on...

Because Sony, and a lot of gamers out there, feel that gaming consoles should be focused on GAMING as a top priority...media features as a distant second. The one thing Sony learned from this current gen, is that most people rarely used the media features on the PS3...even tho they were there. They found that the majority of gamers made gaming a #1 priority over all else. Sony applied this knowledge when designing the PS4. So unlike the PS3, which was a multimedia machine...Sony has now switc...

No, instead they say "heres a box that you can subscribe to OUR services...and watch TV on."

They completely omitted the fact that there are people out there with tons of media on external HDD's; movies, tv shows, cartoons, music and photo's...that would like the ability to plug those external drives into the PS4, and utilize that media, in the SAME way you can on the PS3. Yeah, I have a PC for that...but my monitor is what, 19 inches and my HDTV is like 47 ...

Microsoft lies as much as Obama lies about affordable health care and "keeping your Dr." LOL

MS: "If you like your current XBox policies, you can keep your current XBox policies. Period."

MS: Thats NOT what we said. What we said was, if you like your current XBox policies...you can keep your current XBox policies, as long as you download and install a special Day One Patch, that will remove DRM restrictions from your console. Let me be cl...

I wish Sony would announce whether or not PlayStation Home will be on the PS4. Home is by far, the biggest social feature of the PS3...and if PS4 is all about being "social"...then it needs to have a place for Home and it's users.

So youre basically theorizing, that even tho Microsoft has never bricked a console in the past (not once, in all of history) that they somehow retain the tools to be able to do so, any time they wanted...and for some reason, you think Moonlightswammi is the special VIP that get's his console bricked in all of XBox history? Just because he posted some random things on the internet? He violated no NDA agreement or the ToS....and yet, people treat this guy like he was GEOHOTZ for posting the...

@imt558

Albert Penello on GAF :

For sure this has nothing to do with requiring a connection. There is no "DRM removal" in the Day One update because none of the consoles were ever built with that stuff in it.

WHY DAY ONE UPDATE THEN????

That is an outright LIE! Microsoft said themselves, earlier in the year, that there would be a day one update to disable DRM and all of the old policy features. This is why people hav...

Right...except Nintendo is the only company currently in existence and in all of history to repeatedly churn out 28 years worth of rehashed franchises.

Cant exactly say that about Sony and Microsoft. At what point does enough, become enough? How many Mario, Zelda, Metroid and DK games does Nintendo think we need, per generation? Nearly 3 decades worth, apparently.

That's not typically what a ban means. Even today's current gen consoles let you play your games offline, if you get banned, permabanned or suspended from the network.

Never in all of console history, has a company EVER restricted offline games and system setting functionality...as a result of a BAN.

In general terms, a console ban typically means you have simply been denied access to the network for a period of time. ...

To be honest...

Theres only 11 days left until the Xb1 launch date, anyway. Unless Microsoft has plans to do a full console breakdown and lay all their cards on the table and release ALL XB1 information, at the last minute....then there is no need to keep or prevent people from talking about it, in the first place.

If there are some features, missing features, glitches, bugs or dirty little secrets that Microsoft doesnt want ousted...11 days before launch......

The next course of action, is to wait for Activision to respond and see what they have to say about it.

If Activision claims to not have any kind of DRM restrictions or online authentication in COD Ghosts....then Microsoft are straight up liars.

As it's been said a dozen times already...

Day one patch is already live. Doesnt necessarily have to be downloaded on Nov 22nd to be qualified as a day one patch. If you have your XB1 early, and you downloaded the patch...thats your day one patch.

There is no doubt, debate or speculation to this. Just pure common sense.

Actually, all Albert Penello said to the DRM being true or not was.... "no."

IF you believe that...and some of us dont.

XBox Sabotage mission? Seriously?

Microsoft did their OWN sabotaging...all year long. Started with DRM, then Kinect, now this "upscaled" 1080p garbage. All of which prompted a series of 180's by Microsoft, forcing them to go back on everything they wanted to do, originally. Now, some dude comes out, who got his XB1 early and was coerced into a "verbal" agreement not to talk about the XB1's UI until launch...and you wanna grab straws just because th...

Not a surprise, the first 2 comments here...are from people expecting new Mario and Zelda games. Sad, really. That an entire company has brainwashed people into thinking that's all theyre capable of producing, to the point to where thats all people expect from them, now.
