I'm not being told to upgrade my GPU to play a certain game, I have that option if I want better performance, but it's not a necessity. Those with weaker GPU's will still be able to play next gen games and they can take their time upgrading their GPU, they won't be frozen out instantly.

Seriously, how can anybody see this as a negative? One of the reasons why I stopped buying consoles and switched to pc was because of all of this outdated console generation stuff. I was sick of starting again on another console where I couldn't take my entire library with me, and I was sick of being told I need to buy a whole new console just to play a certain game.
The simple answer is that Final Fantasy has been marketed better over the years. I remember growing up seeing Final Fantasy ads on tv a lot, Dragon Quest never got that same level lof marketing. This seems to be a very common thing with Ubisoft these days, their games are often very poorly optimised.
The fighting game genre my dude, it's become one of the greediest genres of the lot. It's largely why I have been put off them.
One of the reasons why I gave up consoles. Paying a subscription for something that should be free is absurd.
