Doom 3 was a horror departure, DOOM is not about horror as much as it is a amalgamation of machismo action with a lot of Clive Barker-type horror and D'n'D put into the mix. You enjoyed DOOM for all the wrong reasons, it was never about atmospheric horror and tension only.

The game was really fine. Perhaps not so much as a Castlevania game, but as a God Of War ripoff it's pretty solid. The ending was not fulfilling at all, though...
