DS is selling the most units/month now. The 360 is close behind the PS2. Not bad for a system that costs almost 4x as much.
Based on this hardware breakdown, it's funny to see the PS3 chips actually cost less than the 360. The cost is $600 becasue of the Poo-Ray. So haow can this system be 3x as powerful as the 360? I guess they get a discount on those 2 year old desktop GPU's from Nvidia.

I'm in the military and work with electronics. In the past I've been a comuter tech and currently work on avionics electronics. Electronics are my life, and I've been an avid reader of technology and a video game fan for many years, starting with the Atari 2600. So while I'm not a developer, I do read as many sources as possible on the technology of products, including game systems.
In response to DJ, I do feel you've read some incorrect information on the edram issue. The 360...
MS is a software company primarily. They developed an outstanding piece of gaming hardware, and wrote software to add multimedia functions. There is no extra cost associated with the hardware unlike the PS3. I'm talking about Poo-Ray and media card readers and such.
The RSX is pretty much a 7800GTX class GPU in some cases its worse in some cases better.
I think you also have some incorrect facts on the 360 side, as you tried to compare the 360 chip to a desktop cand. The 360 GPU is the R600 chip. This chip will appear for PC in early 2007 with more pipeleins, but minus the 10mb edram. The sole purpose of the edram is free 4xAA and HDR. That's it's job, and something the PS3 will take a perfomance hit on when implemented in their GPU.

I saw a gameplay video a couple months ago, and it deffinately looks fun and introduces some new elements like instant weapon customization and different ammo types.
PC port wise, the 360 will have the edge. Unified memory and a more efficient GPU as well as double the transfer rate for disk reads will make things easier. The 360 version will end up looking like the high end version, with the PS3 version looking like the mid range version.

for fanboys to celebrate. The poo-ray laser has a smaller wavelength, and will be able to reader standard DVD with higher accuracy. If they did the tests on an HD-DVD player or 360 HD-DVD add-on, they would get the same results, as it is also using a blue laser with the smaller wavelength.

Companies don't like money. For sales just look at amazons lists. HD-DVD is selling far more titles than Blu-Ray. These 2 will most likely end up supporting both formats by mid-year, as money talks louder than Sony executives.
