no, this dance started in the late 78, 79, which was way before cox did it in that Springsteen video. she, like Alfonzo, copied what was already the dance that the new romantics were doing. one of which was Duran Duran in 79 into the early 80's. the part about black kids doing it is more in regards to Alfonzo's overly accentuating the style. Alfonzo was just copying other black teens. we were jokingly mocking the dance at the time.
