The patent for the controller was filed in Jun of 2015, long after the released of the Wii U.
Get this, Nintendo also filed a patent for the Wii U controller on Oct 2011, and it turns out exactly how it look on the final release.

With the upcoming update to allow XB1 gamers to buy X360 titles directly from the console, you will see the floodgate open now with more X360 BC titles added from third party publishers.
Nothing wrong with number 2. Wii was number one last gen and both PS3 and Xbox 360 did OK.

Any Usb cable can be used to charge and play the Elite controller with a PC and it works wirelessly with XB1 out of the box. For PSVR, you need a $50 camera. I don't know why you are comparing the two. The DS4 controller also requires a usb cable to charge and I don't see any complaint about that. You are comparing a $2 cable that also came with your cell phone to a $50-$60 essential accessory.

That is exactl my point. People need to buy a camera all of a sudden with news that the PSVR at $400 doesn't include a camera. So essentially, they are paying more than the $400 as the entry point for VR on PS4.

That is such a lame excuse. First of all, broadband, like electricity are household services and is not require to play games on a PS4 purchase. A better comparison would be if the PS4 came without WiFi or ethernet inputs which of course it came with. As far as guitar heroes, no, a guitar it not neccessary to play as a controller also work. Another bad example.
Some of the spin some of you guys are making to defend an essential part of the PSVR is really hilarious.
I still think not including a camera for every sku is a bad move. $400 is not really the actual price on entry for most current PS4 owners and all future PS4 owners. More like $450. Other than that, Sony did great.
