It shouldn't be up for GotY since it is barely a game. More of an interactive movie/show as are the rest of the Telltale games.
It's a decent entertainment experience, but surely not the best video game of the year.
If I had to choose, I'd take slightly choppy frame rates over complete hardware failure.
Good read.
I always compared the difference as grinding skill or grinding gear/XP. Street Fighters (and other fighting game players) grind skill. MMORPG players (and the like) grind gear/XP.
I can't wait to try out the XCOM MP now! Well, as soon as I finish my Classic difficulty run.
I didn't enjoy the beta at all, not even enough to rent this one.
I'm sorry, I can't hear your complaints about Borderlands 2 difficulty over the sound of my soldiers' dying screams in XCOM on classic.
Borderlands 2 ... impossible...LOL (and I mean that literally). Not even close to impossible. Impossible is something like a plat on WipeoutHD or Gran Turismo 5. Even Dark Souls/Demon's Souls is much harder than Borderlands 2.
I was really impressed with both TTT2 and SC5. Not so much with the high volume of rage-quitters in SC5. The netcode and online experience was pretty solid in terms of lag/stability.
+1 Helpful :-)
I'd rather have projectors putting images on walls/ceiling/floor than have a 3D TV.
FMV, lingerie clad women's sports team, drilling (with a 1/2" bit) into peoples' neck to siphon blood, and lots of vampires... Night Trap was a lot of fun. Not scary in the horror sense, but most "horror" games at that time were not actually scary. For a young kid the combination of video based sex and violence in a game was really fun, but not scary.
Hmmm buy something like Journey or Spelunky on XBL... or a couple swimsuits for DoA? Shouldn't even be a question.
If the swimsuits were wrapped around entirely new characters, yes.
The netcode is an improved version of that Namco used in Soul Calibur 5, which was pretty good. I had many smooth matches with people across the Atlantic.
I didn't play Tekken 6, so I'm not sure how bad that one was.
Namco keeps getting better. I am confident I can be happy with this as my only fighting game until Tekken x SF.
@sonicsidewinder The old ones, yes - definitely vomit worthy. But this new incarnation really feels natural with a controller. Not sure i'd want to go back to kb/m after this.
It is a really great example of what a good fighting game should be. Big roster, good balance, excellent netcode, deep practice mode, private lobbies and global arenas for unranked online, and tons of gear/costume pieces to unlock.
Movement is really important, so practice and always be aware how different moves change your positioning. It sucks to throw someone and end up in the corner or against a wall.
Sounds about right. I always thought XCOM games should come with vouchers for new controllers. I'm a little afraid of Impossible difficulty.
I didn't think any of that was a big deal. Is there anyone out there who buys games based SOLELY on a reviewer opinion? There are tons of ways to decide for oneself if a game is for them or not. Demos, videos, screenshots, forums, consumer reviews on retail websites, rentals, word of mouth etc.
Who cares if some journalists are biased? My initial reaction to the news that some game journalists are biased was, "Yeah. And?". Biased journalism isn't a st...
I didn't notice the new icon, since I don't play Singstar. I guess I was too busy enjoying playing games to bother complaining about an icon on the XMB.
I've had enough already. Between the games I've purchased and the ones I've been given for subbing to PS+ I have more than enough to play.
Too bad PS+ doesn't come with a 10-20% off coupon for larger hard drives!
I'm really loving this game. It can be frustrating though.
Tips:
Build lots of satellites
Research the Firestorm ASAP
Stealth satellite upgrade
Plasma sniper rifle
SHIV units (no poison, no mind control, no panic, no chrysalid babies busting out when they die, but no items, no skills, and no XP).
I agree it is a game, but barely (like I said). It's different, yes you are correct. It does have an emotional aspect for a lot of people. It's just not GotY for me, as I prefer a more interactive gaming experience. It was nice, but not my favorite game this year. I'm not sure what my GotY might be, but XCOM is definitely in the discussion.
