So what I understand about crews is that you're in any crew with an unlimited persons cap, not just your friends. If someone kills one of your teammates, that teammate can put a vendetta over that someones head and if that guy is killed more XP is awarded. Even if the match is over, they will continue to track it (against rival crews) to see how everyone stacks up. Rockstar said that they wanted to add more drama to multiplayer.
