Same reason as you have 2 eyes instead of 1. 2 cameras working in sync (this is important) provide something called "depth of vision" (aka 3rd dimension). Try to do some routine tasks which require depth of vision with your one eye closed, you'll get the feeling for a while (before your brain's ability to lean, adapt and compensate kicks in).

WHat is the use? People are anyways going to pay for XBLG / PS+, regardless they play TESO or not. I'd rather pay ~ $5 a month and play new games (not 'brand new' new) every month than paying triple the amount for a service per month and play same game, especially after paying full price in the beginning.
Rather than pushing MS / Sony for this kinda stupidity, push yourself to make it clean buy-to-play like Skyrim.
