It's not about the technical stuff. It's about the artistic merit and how well constructed the game's visual identity is.

Ie: it's great when games are impressive in their scope and detail like Crysis & Killzone 2, but it's also equally admirable for games like Mirror's Edge that aren't throwing around the normal mapping and stuff but trying something new to change the entire feel of the game instead.

So glad the team redesigned the graphics. It went from generic sci-fi to what might be the most graphically unique shooter this generation.

There's also ones like Batman: Arkham Asylum that might not be as 'unique' but get the feel and atmosphere across perfectly (or at least form what I've played in the demo).

It's not about how realistic graphics are or the number of polygons. It's about looking at them artistically and which have the best visual identities that really set them apart.

I actually think it's surprising Crysis is even in the top 10, there's tons of beautiful games this generation like Flower and Prince of Persia.

LittleBigPlanet and Flower. Uncharted maybe, but look at it from an art standpoint it's not really that unique (environments are kind of a more polished Tomb Raider?).

Gears of War was beautiful, dunno if it would be in the top 10 (there are so many beautiful games this gen).

Ratchet and Clank....really? Didn't stand out for me. Kind of similar to a lot of similar themed games / movies like Robots. Pretty but not all that original or interesting to look at imo.

The game has awesome charm, and yeah graphically it's quite beautiful to look at, really well constructed. Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts was also on the same engine.

It's true that now every second game seems to be trying to outdo the next with bigger and better particle effects, shadows, blah blah blah but if a game really stands out for having unique art I prefer that any day over Generic Brown ShooterTM 738: Return of Mr Brown in Brownland with exclusive new colour: Grey!' <...

If it handles like the in-game warthog?

Seriously the most enjoyable game vehicle to drive, the sheer insanity of its grip and suspension mad eit a hell of a lot of fun, as newbies could drive it but get some practise in and you could make the thing glide around rocks and take jumps at 90 degrees to land sliding into the next corner.

If only all big games could have launch events like this (and not just in Sydney / New York / Tokyo / etc).

After all, movies have their big red carpet premieres, and I think from the earnings of Halo 3 and GTA IV we can safely say there's a sizable number of gamers in the population. The regular EB midnight launches just aren't cutting it anymore...

So yeah, allow me to express my deep envy-fueled hatred for anyone who got to go to the event. Lucky SOBs.

Why did I click that link....

It'll take years of therapy to get that image out of my head

He's achieved the impossible - uniting both 360 and PS3 fanboys in their hate of him!

If you ask me, that's something pretty amazing I never thought I'd ever see happen.

Just a shame we have to (literally) pay for it...

After all, when you look at some of the other successful franchises like Call of Duty, Ratchet and Clank, etc it's still only young and is about to launch the 5th in the series. Hardly overdone when you've got stuff like 5 different FInal Fantasy games people are waiting for simultaneously.

And I haven't heard complaints of some of the other mega-franchises like Metal Gear that has had 4 main console games, 2 repackages ('Substance'), 2 card-game spin-offs on PSP (Metal Gear AC!D...

Indie devs are thriving on Live Arcade and PSN.

'Splosion Man and Fat Princess both in the same month = pure awesome. Now if only World of Goo could be ported over....

Pre-rendered early screens vs later in-game screens?

Seriously, look at the difference. The 'early' one is clearly either prerendered as CG cutscene or at least a 'target render', and the newer one is the in-game shot.

Fantastic cards, haven't had any of the stuff like game crashes or driver issues I got so used to with my old Nvidia 7900GTX Go.

Both Nvidia and ATi have brilliant GPUs out at the moment. Nvidia mainly going for the power angle, and ATi going for the value.

When I got them, 2 x 4890s Crossfire in Australia were $640 AUD, while the Nvidia performance equivalent (2 x GTX 275 in SLi) were $840.

Hopefully ATi's aggressive pricing will help push Nvidia to be ...

Seriously, how much more photo-realistic can boxing and fighting game sin general get?! We can already see the pores and sweat, so what else is there to do? 3D arm hair?

I would've loved to try Wolfenstein - it's kind of been off my radar until the last few weeks. Overshadowed by some of the other big games coming in the next 2 months (ODST, Batman, etc).

Many people will shell out the money for full $100 retail shooters only for the multiplayer.

I think it's great step for making multiplayer-only FPS on Live Arcade for much cheaper - perfect for when you get a bit sick of Halo 3 and CoD4, but don't want to pay a fortune for something new.

And hey, they can easily add more maps later on or even mini 'sequels' - eg: for 1943 they could then do a sci-fi sequel like 2142 was, but once again for 1200mp and just a few maps...

I found Fable 2 started off a bit too slowly for my tastes, but it was about when I got to Oakfield that it hooked me in.

Slow start, but the world really sucks you in once you've put a few hours in. The atmosphere and charm were superb, and to me are still the Fable series' strongest point. Some people don't like Fable because it's not as in-depth or stat heavy as other RPGs, or because of the short length of the main quest, but it can't be denies that world is brilliantly reali...

Bad Xbox fans attack any issue Sony has, bad PlayStation fans attack any issue Microsoft has. Please don't spin it like only Sony ever gets negative article comments.

Eg: It was just the other day that there was the article about Activision banning CoD hackers on Xbox Live which drew many negative comments about the number of cheaters on 360 compared to PS3.

Seriously, there are lots of anti-Sony people and lots of anti-Microsoft people on N4G. No-one can play the vi...

Isn't that just like games such as Heavy Rain?

Most stuff is scripted, but you make choices and have control of the camera.

The PhysX physics engine can be CPU-accelerated, as it is in most games. Just like Havok is CPU-accelerated.

However, PhysX is also the first to offer GPU-accelerated physics, but only for Nvidia cards. The GPU-accelerated physics features of some games like Mirror's Edge and UT3's PhysX addon can't be done on CPUs, so on console and PC with ATi cards you get the regular game, but on NVidia GPUs some have extra GPU PhysX effects are available for some games.
