As a subscriber to both, PS+ has moved way ahead recently. Gold feels like a service charge while PS+ feels more like the gift that keeps on giving
Can we all agree on one thing... the knives came out for the 3DS, Vita and now Wii U soon after launch, as their launch sales dived.
Get used to it folks, this is the new normal, we are not living in the walled-gardens of 1994 or 2001. The expensive new PS4 and XboxNext will take years to muster decent sales, anyone getting uppity after a few weeks deserves a good kicking - if you see news or forums posts like that feel welcome to apply full metal toecap.
Or, to put it another way, we haven't explained it properly to consumers.
Never underestimate the general consumer and their ability to not give a rats ass about your (in fact any) lovely product.
Such a work of art, this is creativity in gaming folks. Show it to anyone bleating on about the endless violence in video games.

4K is just a way for TV makers to sell 80" and bigger sets, in the same way HD and LCD moved the bar from 32" to 40"+.
It has nothing to do with how the human eye perceives light and movement, so for gamers is a big fat waste of space. Even movie fans only get the extra space for that "cinema feel".
Sure, those still images and short clips on-screen at trade shows look great, but only because they are still, or moving veeerry slooow...

Most commenters seem to be missing the big problem with the 3DS. Its sold gazillions, yet most 3DS games in the list have only sold 200-300K.
That leaves developers with no massive advantage in coding for 3DS over the Vita, if they have a decent brand behind the game. There's less competition on the Vita side, so we may see more games cross-developed this year, and if the 15 PSP games in the list update to a Vita version (some have already), they get extra sales for only ...
I'd throw a 4G model full-function phone Vita in there, given the mad sizes of some smartphones now.

My missus hates FPS games and most other types, but loves House of the Dead and the Resident Evil on rails-shooters, so we have the odd blast together. Go figure!
The only time a winner will be declared is when all the Sony boys and the Xbox boys meet on a really big battlefield armed with big frickin' axes... Last one alive can claim to be the winner.

Back in 2008, Capcom did promise all future major releases would be multiformat. Just depends which bit of Capcom said that I guess.
Many gamers feel so entitled these days, they'll be angered by pretty much anything anyone does to make money out of them.
The question is, are there enough paying buyers to support both AT A PROFIT? Otherwise they'll be the last consoles before we all migrate to cloud gaming in the short-term future... which I think I'd prefer anyway.
Wonder who'll be on coding duties this time, guess they've been signed if the news is imminent and with the engine in place, they can focus on fixes, improvements and content.
