Pricey but you can find them used. I got one for $3 at a Game Crazy that was going out of business.
How about a "Backup your data to an External HD, Memory Card, or network PC" app. Because hard drives die all the time, that includes the one in the xbox 360.

you can't be logged in to two at the same time, but I bet that when you log into PS3-A, it can search your local network and find PS3-B and see if any of the saves are for that Profile.
You don't have to be logged in to a profile for the PS3 to know what profile a save belongs to.
If they are going to do stuff like this, they should add the ability to do scheduled backups to a PC/Mac/NAS on the network.

MS disabled the ability to use a Media Center on local network. That modified something locally. This could be the one thing that could be used in a law suit.
They should have just black listed the console ID on Live, nothing else. That would not require anything to be done to the console itself, just when it tried to connect to Live, it would be denied access.

I'm not saying that I won't play the next Zelda and that I'm not excited for it. I'm saying that I'll be even more excited when Nintendo releases a Zelda/Mario that are on an equal technical level with the PS3/360. Can you image a Zelda in 1080p, open world, with dlc, co-op online play, all voice acting, etc...
Zelda games were made popular by being beautiful eye candy with fun worlds, full of exploration and depth. I feel the Wii is holding that franchise back.

I'm always excited about Zelda games, but I'm a bit bummed that the Next one won't be in HD.
I'm being spoiled by PS3/360 graphics. I play something like Assassin's Creed on a 52" HDTV and think, "man, imagine a Zelda game that looked like this". Then I realize it probably will be another 5 years until Zelda/Mario/Metroid will enter the HD world.

PSN does not have a network per timezone, otherwise you'd only be able to play against people in your timezone. I'm sure there are sections of the network they can update and take down while other parts are left up, but I doubt it's timezone specific.
