Mark Cerny himself said they went the route they did to cut costs to keep the price under $400. I believe you may be right with PS5 instead of Pro 2, but I think it they may run a Pro Slim with somewhat faster clock speeds first, and perhaps a UHD drive.
As far as Scorpio pricing, it may be able to hit $499, but that high cost was one reason Xbox One didn't sell as well as PS4. Anything above $499 is suicide for the gaming industry.
I think they made the right move. It wasn't that expensive to develop, and they were sort of testing the waters. Once Sony sees what Microsoft does, I bet they will plan a Pro 2 depending on if the expensive Scorpio sells well.

I preordered one for the on the go gameplay only. I am still very worried that this is another Wii U. If third party support is lacking and we have to wait for first party games only (like Wii U) it will certainly fail.
