This is just speculation on my part but I believe the main reason besides the whole Silicone Valley HQ censoring Japanese games is Sony being one of the biggest Sponsors for the Japanese 2020 Olympics and is Sony essentially trying to do damage control and clean up their reputation distancing themselves from the ecchi/eroge/pedo genre/ whatever you want to call them dated looking shits.

Yep I know Gotyblogspot is legit I follow their Goty results from time to time but I will take Rockstar's word for it unless of course they are mistaken or Gotypicker missed some sites.
Well it might win maybe 1-4 Game Of The Year awards from Small sites or Japanese centric Goty sites to give it some love but its not to the taste of the general gaming audience and gaming media who will shower God OF War, RDR2 and Spiderman with double digits and likely triple digit goty awards.
God OF War and Red Dead will both likely win over 100 Game of the year awards, dont think anyone winning over 200, since Spiderman, and other big titles will be winning trinkets here and there, as far as the different awards ceremonies,

Metacritic's dont determine Goty, Metal Gear Solid Phantom Pain had a 95 Metacritic and Witcher 3 had a 93, MGS won less then 30 Goty awards vs the 257 Goty Awards Witcher 3 got, its anyones race to win maybe Spider-Man wins majority peoples choice due to MCU influence but for sure RDR2 and God Of War will clean up all the Gotys and other awards in storytelling, graphics, etc.

I would have said bring back Core Design but that's highly unlikely given the fact the team is defunct. Tomb Raider would be a lot more successful critically aswell as sales if it wasn't constantly put up or compared to Uncharted it sets the bar very high and Crystal Dynamics and Eidos cant hang with Naughty Dog, Naughty Dog will be over 800 Gotys Once TLOU 2 drops with maybe 4 Overall Gotys vs the 0 CD, Eidos and Square have.

Sony is the biggest sponsor for the Summer 2020 Olympics but likely it might be them also catering to the Chinese market which they have firmly planted their feet in and from the looks of it China is doing pretty good for them and likely will be a successful new market for them joining the Middle East(West Asia), South and East Asia, South Africa, North Africa, Europe and the other territories they do well in.
