I agree with you. The game feels unfinished.
Your logic is the worse of them all. You're basing a review on numbers. If you actually READ the reviews out there, a lot of them are not impressed with Medal of Honor. Remember, these are reviews which are opinions of reviewers. Ryu, we know you like the game it doesn't mean that the reviewer at IGN should like it as well.
The game disappointed so all of a sudden the IGN staff are CoD fanboys. Oh, I love the logic on this site. It got bad reviews across the board, get over it. The game doesn't impress.
I think the mode is to gain map knowledge more instead of practicing gun "skill". It's a good way to practice the new guns you've unlocked, practice routes around the maps, or just a finger warmup. Human opponents can either be weak or strong in an actual ranked match. I think this is a good practice without getting your ass handed to you, especially for those late adopters on Christmas day.
Microsoft only said that so they could get the hell off of the Halo 2 service. They were trying to shut original Xbox Live online games down and those nerds kept hogging it up. We're trying to get the 100 friends cap eliminated and those dweebs couldn't get rid of the nostalgia.

They're not charging for the firmware, they're charging for the labor. That's how it's always been with Best Buy's Geek Squad, they overcharge for the simplest tasks. Of course they're not apologetic. Then again, you don't NEED to have that service done. I don't see the big deal, just ignore that service.

Don't be a douche, this game is to pay respect to the soldiers who have been fighting this war for the past decade. Don't blame the developers for making the game as authentic as possible. They made the change because they didn't want to offend the people they were paying their respect to.
I'm about half way through the campaign. It's kind of scary that this article got posted. I picked up the game 2 weeks ago.

I wonder what capture card they used because the quality looks bad. Looks like they used a cheap Dazzle DVC-100. This is not much of a reliable source for screen comparisons. Try to use a capture device that uses HDMI instead of this crappy AV comparison screenshot.
