well they could whip out the check book to ensure that classic and popular characters synonymous with playstation; the likes of crash, spyro and snake would be in it. Somehow I get the feeling that is not how sony is does these things though. They'd probably rather throw in a first party nobody like, oh I dunno, fat princess to save a quick buck.

I don't recall fat princess and parappa the rapper being in the advert. Any character we see in allstars is mere coincidence to the advert, unless of course every character in the advert is in the game then you might be onto something, but that looks doubtful. Seems ludicrous to suggest that they'll only be in the game becasue of the advert. You have to learn to statements like that with a pinch of salt.
I really hope sony plays their cards right, but they have a history over the past 5 years to do just the opposite. If anyone can screw an idea like this up, it's sony unfortunately.
Terrible connection, an advert containing playstation characters and only 50% so far from a game dedicated to playstation characters appeared in that advert. Bottom of the barrel correlation.
the graphics and character choices are terrible, but the gameplay looks pretty fun. Hopefully we see some real quality sony characters revealed, though they are few and far between.

anyone can list a majority of unrecognisable non-popular playstation characters with 3rd party characters to make a list look big, that doesn't mean they have mass appeal like nintendo characters do. It doesn't mean I don't think those game aren't good either.

yeah, from what I've seen of the roster so far it leaves a lot to be desired. Just shows you how weak the playstation character roster actually is. I mean fat princess, come on, surely they have some more recognisable characters than that...

I think your comprehension of what it means to sell well is akin to a 3 year old.
metal gear is synonymous with playstation and sells extremely well as a result with each iteration selling more than 5m units, which is a hell of a lot. It would have flopped big time as a 360 exclusive. You only have to look at the sales of 360 exclusives that aren't halo or gears just to see how pathetic they actually sell in comparison to sony exclusives.
On a side note I agree with fez. The ps3 graphical advantage is still, to this day, grossly exaggerated.
