There's no way that the Vita's OS can compete with Apple's iOS until Sony gives indie developers the freedom to create new apps for the Vita, and have an interface for users to download the apps (the PSN store would be great for this).
I'm not even a fan of apps on Apple devices but I know that they ARE the reason why people are so crazy adamant about saying iPhones are the most useful thing since electricity was first harnessed.
