Yet it has also been the worst generation as a gamer and looking for blockbuster games. They have thrown huge amount of resources into the wrong games and we as gamers will suffer from it. Sony will have to do the remaster a remaster solution again and again to create the illusion that they actually have a good back catalogue comming.

All this has done, is convince me just to get the PC already.
There is no disguising that the S is more difficult to optimize for - but so is 50 pct. of PC's not to mention the Nintendo Switch. I think the existance of the S actually pushes the developers to improve the game that it even some times improves the game for the X and PS5. We have seen that before.
But if you are a developer i guess you would awoid this as much as possible to do the bare minimum that is needed to get the game running OK. I think we all win just not laz...
