A gamer that owns an Xbox 360, I can say with confidence that Mr. Enderle doesn't. His article shows little understanding of the past and future games for the 360. As has been pointed out, Halo 3 is not an MMO.

I think my favorite quote is "While there are a lot of good games out for the Xbox 360, including Halo 2..." Halo 2 was released for the Xbox 1, and there are plenty of good games for the 360, which he would know if he had ever played on the console.

I think it is fairly obvious that Halo 3 won't doom the PS3. However, I take exception with your reliance on MGS as a star franchise for Sony.

MGS3 sales worldwide: 3.6 million
Halo 2 sales worldwide: over 7 million
PS2 user base: 80 to 100 million
Xbox user base: 22 million

Halo 2 sold twice as many copies as MGS3 to a user base 1/4 to 1/5 the size. This time around, the PS3 has a userbase 1/3 the size of the Xbox 360. Halo 3 won't kill t...

"not a bunch of shooters..."

That is a very ignorant statement. You are implying that all 360 games are shooters, or at least all good titles are shooters, and use as evidence four games across four genres? I am going to assume that including VF5 and Oblivion was the result of a mental lapse on your part. Or, are you actually trying to prove the PS3's superior library by listing cross-platform games?

The 360 has its own stellar performers in each of ...

Sony owns 8.59% of Square Enix stock, to be precise. You can find Square Enix's most recent annual report at the following link: http://www.square-enix.com/...

How is the Wii breaking the mold? By not putting out any hack 'n slash games? Or by putting out games that don't involve repetition?

I havn't played Red Steel, but from the reviews, the swordplay sequences sound an aweful lot like your statement, "attack, wait, attack, block then fatality, only to do it all over again and again on a hundred bad guys."

Or, maybe you are referring to the fact that the Wii has a stronger library of mini-games?

@ Jason:

It has nothing to do with being offended. It is the blatant lie of it all that is the problem (or, in the alternative, Sony's incompetence). If Europe is Sony's most important continent, why did they delay 5 months before launch? Why did they content themselves with allowing Microsoft and Nintendo free reign in the market of an entire continent? Two answers come to mind: 1. Phil is lying, and Europe is not important, because no rational company management would do ...

"Givin the limited amount of PS3's they had when they initially launched in Japan and the U.S. what should they have done?"

Oh, I don't know...launch in their most important continent?

I apologize for labeling you a Sony fanboy. That was wrong of me.

I think that some Japanese developers are making good strides into the Western market creating hybrid East-West games (Lost Planet) and making localized versions of Japanese games that will sell well in the West (Phantom Dust).

I agree that this generation is going to be quite the show to watch. PS3 will pick up speed, Wii will lose a little speed, and I think the 360 will keep on doing well.

You have set yourself in quite a paradox. Citing history of video games as your authority, you claim that trends in the past are sure indicators of future results. Your point is made by your statement about winning in Japan being necessary for total market domination.

The subject was sales in Japan. However, having cited video game history as authority for your position, other posters are on topic if they use video game history to refute your premise.

What is even mor...

None of those items is a game console. The appeal is different. Surround sound systems are also purchased by people who buy HDTV's, which costs thousands of dollars. Are you suggesting that the PS3 sales would start catching fire if it cost $3000, but had some great titles? The market is different.

The appeal of a music device is vastly greater than a stay-at-home console. For what it is, merely a game, a console is not worth $600 to most people who buy consoles. I agree ...

I totally forgot about Huxley and All Points Bulletin. I tried the FF XI demo - lack of voice chat (on Square's end) and (at the time) lack of an HDTV (on my end) made for a very unsatisfying experience.

I am excited for Age of Conan and Marvel Universe. Battlestar Galactica could be worth a look, too.

I am still waiting for Bethesda to reverse policy and announce that the next Elder Scrolls game is multiplayer (not even MMO, just multiplayer). That would be s...

I recall Conan and Marvel, and now BSG. I am sure there are others I am missing.

Where are Sony going to come up with a price cut on the PS2? At some point, console component prices just won't get cheaper. If they are losing money on the PS3 and barely making money on the PS2, where are they going to come up with enough margin for a price cut?

I can understand cutting the price of the PS3, as that is an investment in later hardware and software sales as a marketshare-grabbing maneuver. However, the PS2 has no competition from the original Xbox and the Ga...

That was your personal One Million Consoles Sold Goal, wasn't it? 'Cause I sure don't remember Sony talking 1 million PS3s by 2007. Could you perhaps refresh my recollection by pointing me towards some news release where they downgraded their goal to 1 million?

How will Sony sell 5.15 million PS3s (6m - .85m = 5.15m) in three months when they couldn't sell 1 million PS3s in one and a half months during the holiday season?

6996d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Lack of games is only one of the PS3's problems. The price point is unreasonable for the mass market that drives the console market. Most people who buy consoles wait for them to drop below $200(USD). Sales can't "catch on fire" until there are worthwhile games on the system, AND there is a reasonable price to go with it.

The PS2 is doing so well because it has lots of games AND it is dirt cheap.

I prefer the page (and the site) as is. I come to news4gamers.com to read the posts and comments of angsty children. When things are going too swimmingly, I visit this site to be reminded that there is suffering somewhere in the world, even if it is only blog readers suffering the deluded ravings of an idiot. I go elsewhere for constructive discussion of gaming issues. This site is what it is. Leave it be.
