This was their keynote address. This is where they pull out the big guns. From here on out, you'll see more targeted reviews, interviews and screenings. But this was Sony's chance to shine.
I agree with posters above that the games were tantalizing and the PSP-PS3 features were slick. However, Home and rumble should have been announced a week or two before the show, so that the keynote address would generate some good momentum.
I believe that Microsoft announced SALES of 11.6 million, recently, not shipped numbers. Correct me if I am wrong. The numbers were 10 million SHIPPED by December 31, 2006, 11.6 million SHIPPED by June 2007, 11.6 million SOLD by September 2007.
Yes, Sony cites March, but sales from January to March will be a shadow of what happens from now through December.
@eric:
I agree that feigning disinterest for multiplatform titles, or titles that one "loses" from his platform of choice, is pathetic. However, Lightning has a point. I played a wee bit of the demo of whichever Castlevania game that was released on the Xbox (remember when demos only came via OXM disks?). It was so bad that I could only stand to play a few minutes. I'll need an extensive demo of a 360 version of Castlevania before I can even start to take this title serio...
If the PS3 version were delayed due to Sony's choice of architecture, then it would be "Sony screwing Sony royally."
Unlike most people on this blog, mass media and consumers don't care how long a system has been on the market. These articles are not written and read for bragging purposes. This information is supposed to enlighten consumers (and market followers) about the offerings of any given game console.
Let me explain by example. Let's say that you are ten years old. let's also say that you have an older brother. He is five years older than you. You have fairly similar talents, a...
How backwards that comment was.

"Imagine what an awesome experience GTA IV would've been on Blu-Ray for example."
What does Blu-Ray add to the title? Textures? No. That is limited by memory. Gameplay? That is limited by developer skill. Lighting, effects? That is limited by processor power. What exactly does Blu-ray add? Storage space. Can the developer fill it? Not with a finite budget and development schedule. B...
[EDIT] Supposed to be in reply to 17 and 18 re: certain Sony games missing from the article. Lovely reply mechanics, N4G.
Little Big Planet is not considered a AAA title. Rather it is has more of a niche/arcade appeal. Certainly enjoyable, but not a mind-blowing experience. The physics of the game make it unique, but it is a game of limited scope.
Killzone 2 is left off the list for very good reason. Or, better said, what reason is there to put it on the list? ...
I read it, Huckleberry.
If he had, the case would have been too hot to hold with bare hands.
Just for the record...
Those of you claiming that you don't need "help" are the last persons who would know if you did.
I think you are a little confused about the role of developers and publishers. Sales means money for the publisher, not the developer.
Comparisons to Halo 2 are hard to avoid, when the map is a slightly upgraded version of arguably the most popular map in Halo 2. Look at the textures, though, they are significantly cleaner and more detailed. In particular, check out the big chunk of stone/concrete on the beach. And that is with placeholder textures. It looks sharper than Halo 2, just not up to Halo 3 standards. WHICH IS EXPECTED. Frankie, PR guy, talks about various graphical upgrades and effects, which are not enabled...
It is called the Brute Spiker.
We all knew that at the time. However, this one (accidental?) moment of candor was such a contrast to the remainder of the PR release (interview?) that I did a double take.
"Phil Harrison: Wikipedia is great, but as you probably know, my bio was not written by me, so I'd not trust it completely..."
Is it sad that I would trust it even less if it were?
[Edit] Case in point:
"6.) 'Rumble' by SuperCharlie
How long will we have to wait until we see a first party controller with rumble?
Phil Harrison: As we've only recently resolved our legal differences with Immersion, it's a little early to...
This game sounds like a must have. Coop, Zombies (but fast moving zombies, like Zerglings), fighting survival style through a city-scape... Pure gaming goodness.
I would like to see a little more about the physics, environment interaction, zombie classes, weapon options, etc. Gameplay video, eventually, would be nice.
I never really enjoyed Dead Rising (only played the demo), because I never felt a sense of urgency. In Dead Rising, the character stands in a m...
I am no Sony fan, but I'll answer your question.
The problem with the Wii-mote is not that it, in and of itself, is a gimmick, but that most applications of the Wii-mote are gimmicky. The motion sensing, particularly motion beyond tilt functionality, has potential. However, many games outside of sports simply replace a button press with a Wii-mote "shake". I have no desire to shake a remote when a button-press would suffice. Games that go beyond this appear limite...
He never says that programming for the PS3 is not difficult. He just says that if you are going to program for the PS3, don't complain about the difficulty. Read it again, seriously.
but there are reasons aside from picture quality to release HDMI after not including it at launch. Availability of hookups is one reason. General consumer demand, indepedent of cause, is another. Changing standards is yet another reason. MS never said that HDMI was bad, just that it wasn't needed.
Sony on the other hand, needs to learn to not dismiss features that are TEMPORARILY unavailable to them (as in, say, during a lawsuit for patent infringement). With any foresight...
