Gore in itself doesn't have to be that disturbing. It depends on how it's designed. Doom is a perfect example of that. There's so much gore in that game, but only a small portion of it makes me cringe (which is intentional, to have more shock value in some instances). You can tell the whole thing is stylized to make it a bit cartoony and silly.

And it's not just making existing game scenarios look better, but having more impressive scenarios to begin with.
You'll have games that have much more scale and complexity, with much more physics and interactivity and AI etc. When you have a more powerful CPU, you can just push a lot more. Developers will be able to attempt things that will blow our minds.

It doesn't use RTX for shadows. It uses RTX for global illumination.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider uses it for raytraced shadows and Battlefield 5 uses it for reflections.
