Evidence it's a great game? 85% on Metacritic. Sure, maybe not every score on Metacritic is completely accurate but it's a rough ballpark. So, there is my basis for Red Faction being a great game. What was yours again?
Of course a smart dude like yourself understands the difference between "bias" and "preference". I'm not biased towards the Xbox, but I prefer it. So, no, there isn't always some form of bias in the media but there certainly is preference.

I thought this list was refreshing. I mean, when I read the title I already had a list of five games that would probably be on it but I was plesently surprised by some of their choices. Come on, doesn't EVERY best games list have Zelda number one? That just seems boring to me.

Red Faction is a quality game. That's a fact. Quality is not subjective, only a sense of value and preference are. A large, unique game may not be worth full price to you just like a generic FPS is not worth full price to me. How is an game like Heavenly Sword, that's less than ten hours, worth full price but Red Faction isn't?

On topic: If Valve thought some of the ideas they came up with were not up to snuff then so be it. Atleast they're very high on quality control.
Please tell me you don't think Killzone 2 has a better story and more variety than Red Faction. I mean, shouldn't a GOTY be somewhat unique? Killzone 2 isn't anything unique, just very good. Red Faction has alot more to offer IMO: large sandbox, relatively unique setting and story, interesting array of weapons and vehicles. Certainly Red Faction isn't perfect and it's not as pretty as Killzone, but it does offer a more unique experience.
