I totally agree with you. The only profitable IP that Microsoft has in its first-party arsenal is Halo, and that one IP is not enough to carry them throughout an entire console generation (5 years, at the least). Microsoft does nothing but throw money in third-party developers faces, cross their fingers, and hope that their money will cause some kind of an advantage to the xbox 360.

I would say that SquareEnix can not only taste Microsoft's proverbial shlong, but it also had some of MS's chocolate starfish for dessert.
Since FFXIII is still PS3-exclusive in Japan, this decision to make it multi-platform in the American/European territories will not have as big an negative effect on the PS3 as we thought (like what 30 minutes ago).
No doubt Japan is THE BIGGEST MARKET for Final Fantasy. Americans like me love Final Fantasy, but the Japanese gaming community buy out all the Final Fantasy games a lot more than any other regional gaming community.

That was exactly what I was thinking. I suspect that maybe a few months ago, SquareEnix and SCE executives came together and had a discussion. The discussion involved the SE executives telling the SCE executives that development costs for FFXIII are really starting to rise, and that to make a profit on the game they need to create an xbox 360 port of the game.
No doubt SCE and the Playstation brand has been a HUGE factor in SquareEnix's financial gains and corporate risings, so...
Just like when some of them were saying FFXIII was going to suck and that the Final Fantasy franchise was in a total down-turn since FFX. Now they are all wetting their pants that now its Multi-Platform.
The xbox 360 port will not come on a dozen DVD's. You know why? Because now FFXIII is going to be totally watered-down and gimped compared to what it was initially planned to be solely on the PS3.

you all do realize that FFXIII is STILL coming out for the PS3. This will no doubt cause some xbox 360/Final Fantasy fans to think twice about buying a PS3 for this game, but for all the still undecided consumers who enjoy Final Fantasy, the PS3 will vasty be their console of choice for this game.

Yes I personally think that is just the tactic of a firm with less than average first-party assets. When it comes to First-Party support Microsoft doesn't have ANYTHING on Sony, so this is basically just their way of keeping their head above water so they don't drown.

I don't know for sure, but I THINK SquareEnix is just porting it to the Xbox 360 so its true intentional form that it was going to be as an PS3 exclusive will remain, but now it will contain AT LEAST 4 discs for the xbox 360 versions (do the math; if it is at least 40 gbs, then at an 9gb dvd9 the xbox 360 version would have to be AT LEAST 4 discs; 9 X 4 = 36 gbs)
