It also amazes me that it is hard to find in retailers. I've heard retailers have low or no copies on shelves at target and walmart.

From the discussions they have in the Q&A it actually looks like Nintendo will release a dual SD/HD solution for those who need the power, or for titles such as Wii Fit which really don't need the extra power.
People liek Square who want the power to release a great looking title would have the horsepower, but for 2K to release Carnival Games the SD solution is there for them, that way they don't have to spend so much in developement.

The sales could be due to many reasons including games being made as ports, or games being short in the gameplay.
Although Pilotwings was in developement, I have a feeling Nintendo next year will be the best yet for announcements as Nintendo stale sales will push them to preform better in the upcoming years.
Pre-installed software into the OS. This is no different than say the Weather and News Channels already pre-installed out of the box

Funny how people think a profit (even though 30% lower than last year) is a bad thing. Iwata is talking to investors about MORE profit, meaning raising expectations. If Nintendo ever lost money in a quarter, now that is a story.
