Not really. Minecraft set the bar years ago and beats this game with variety.

I hate how many people say "The game isn't for everyone." That is a poor excuse. I wanted a space exploration game with more too it. I have played other space games and they are better in a lot of ways. I wanted good flying, more randomness per planet besides a color swap, decent looking creatures instead of the random lego looking creatures we get and an actual survival experience and more lore. Some gems are rated poorly by critics, yet raved by players. I wouldn't do that with every game. NMS though is rubbish though.
ID engine is garbage for modding and aren't very interactive in the environment. The bugs are fixed now though.
Glitchy but better. It also is not very glitchy anymore. ALL the Fallouts are glitchy as hell. I had way worse glitches in Fallout 3 than NV.
There are many games that launched worse.

I don't think it will have or need VR. It is 3rd person and made for 3rd person. VR won't really do much.
