I see this as differnet markeitng stratergy's:
MS:- Pump the market with your best games in the 3 1/2 month lead up to Xmas.
Sony:- Release your games over the year.
I think if you took the total games over the year, it will be pretty much even.
However, one of these has the potential to sell more consoles at Xmas time than the other stratergy.
MS are aiming at game and console sales.
Sony appear to be aiming at...
FYI...
http://playstation.joystiq....
But your right on the rest , GOW3 and WKC were never confirmed.
Ok,Blood sprays are created by "billboarding" a sequence of alpha mapped textures over an area to give you the impression of volume. The actual modelling is a square "billboard" but it uses alpha mapping (i.e. clear, slightly clear) textures to simulate the blood spray.
As for the PS3, they could have actually used the SPU's as to track proper particles, it might not have been as "thick" but would have looked pretty amazing.
In terms...
It's called alpha blending, and the PS3 isnt as good at it as the 360, it's as simple as that,
Before you all complain, I aint saying it's inferior, it's just not as strong as alpha blending thats all. Look at the blending in Prototype (Lens of truth) where the marking fade out on the 360, on the other hand the PS3 seems to have a good self shadowing detail mapper.
Half a dozen of one six of the other.
I would have to say ease of transport, same reason DD will seep into the main market. Hell I would pay for a DD service form America where I live, which is in the middle of the pacfic. Regardless of why, there is a latenet demand already their. Look at Napster... now look at the Apple store......
@bjornbear...."However, if it ISN'T a misstranslationg as onanie says, consider sony wasn't psychic and didn't forsee a GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS. I rest my case." -Good lord are you suggesting that nobdoy really knows the future and predicting such a thing doesnt take into all sorts of unforseen factors? So....what makes this 2009 predicitions diffent from the 2008 predictions? Nothing. I rest my case.
@onanie, could be but a 50% split of HD-dvd market meant they would ...
I wouldnt hold your breath, but you think he would have googled what I said before replying.
Not everything has to be live streamed.
There is already a huge DD market, it's just mostly illegal bit-torrents.
I'd wager they pull more content than Blu-ray does.
I'm not saying it wont happen, but I dont hold any stock in what these crystal ball gazers tell us is going to happen.
Posisbly because it doesn't need them?
I have more issues running divx through PS3 than the other way around.
Why would you bother? As I say elsewhere, if you dont have a PC, a PS3 is agood place to store stuff, if you have a PC, leave you HDD free for other stuff. As a all in one media unit the PS3 is very good, as a HUB, with which to bring stuff through, it's not that fantastic.
You cant stream music in to games, and the 360 has an easierr implementaiton of it from what I have used. More files dont seem to play on the PS3 in terms of video.
LOL, you do relaise the 360 has integrated support for this? That particular feature (PC streaming) is actually implemented better on the 360.
The PS3 has blu-ray, but thats about it (it's a big plus though), in terms of what it offers over the 360.
On the other hand, seemless (intergrated) streaming from you PC for video, mp3 and in game music makes the 360 more "in tune" with media these days.
Personally, my 360 at times gets used more for divx streaming than games.
In my eyes, if you own a PC and have large medi acolleciton on it, the 360 beats the Ps3 hands down.
On the othe rhand if...
I dont know which is scarier, that I know all those games (except Quest for glory), or that your still playing them :)
I always loved X-com, (and Laser squad if you really want to go back), but found it ran to fast on computers, 8 years later.
I am gratefull for Dosbox, but there is always a period of time where no emulator exsits.
A great line up? Where, you mean "coming"?
Yes, but is really WKC and Demon Soul going to make up for:
Lost Odeysey
Blue Dragon
Infinte Undiscovery
The Last Remenant
Tales Of Vesperia (yes I know coming to the PS3 one day)
Star Ocean
Mass Effect
Fable 2
Clearly not. But it certianly means the PS3 is bringing some RPGS, which is always welcome. But at the moment, it's going to take a lot mor ethan W...
With a little tweaking? Your kididng me, I cant play game released 10 years ago on my current PC, tweaking or not. Unless the games are patched your unlikely to be playing them 15 to 20 years from now, maybe on a 360 emulator though :)
Well, you certianly dont have to wait 8 months between drinks with Sony, thats for sure. On the other hand, MS needs every trick in their arsenal, they are up against a sleeping giant in the Sony brand name -a Sony price cut would be a hell of an alarm clock ;)
