I could say the same for numerous projects that have released on various platforms, but that's just unrealistic. The amount of money needed for development, a physical release (I would hope), advertisement, ports to all the consoles and PC would have been a daunting task to fulfill on kickstarter. Even small games, with pixel art on 2D planes, get close to or go over the million mark when various platforms and extra modes, which this game has, are involved.

Also, a game like Nier, which pretty much relies on its story and music, just wouldn't be the same without the amazing soundtrack. It's unfortunate that most game music composers don't get the credit they deserve for their contributions to gaming. Without the Yasunori Mitsudas, Nobuo Uematsus and Akira Yamaokas of the world gaming would be far less enjoyable.
Strange, I was so busy playing Bayonetta, the Queen of deep meaningful combat action, that I didn't get a chance to play GoW. And I don't feel like I missed much, but I think you missed a LOT.

Anyway, if there's one trend I can support it's taking inspiration from the Dark Souls/Demon Souls games. Hopefully this will continue into other genres and we can see a trend in making games difficult but fair.

I kicked a hole in my wall after getting beat by the Celtics in NBA Jam. I was young, and ever since I've been fairly rage free, save for some swearing during Dark Souls ;)

If sales were the sole end all, be all of games then I wouldn't have anything to play. Games like the original Bayo, Vanquish, Okami, Nier, The World Ends With You, Folklore, Mirrors Edge, Dragons Crown, Binary Domain, Shadows of the Damned, No More Heroes, XCom, Deadly Premonition, and SO MANY OTHERS would never be made. We would all just be left with only the biggest AAA games, focus tested to hell and devoid of originality and soul.
