Agreed. I have bought this series ever since it has been around and the changes have always been incremental each year. 09 to 10 was especially minute... By the way, why did they drop the "King of the Diamond" mini-games when the series went to PS3? One of the best "casual" game experiences gets dropped at the height of "casual" game fever?
Great points and your appreciation for Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past is quite evident. One thing to consider is the impact that Link to the Past had right at the dawn of the console war between Genesis and SNES. The Genesis didn't have (and never got) anything like it. I believe it was the first of many "Only on Nintendo" games that really set the divide between the systems.
Granted, the same could be said about the PS1 and Saturn regarding Ocarina of Tim...
You know it! However, I will admit that Metroid Prime has begun to grow on me after playing through the excellent trilogy version on Wii.
True that! anyone above 30 knows that Link to the Past paved the way for Ocarina of Time... but I think Chrono Trigger is the finest RPG and Super Metroid as an overall "best game." Seriously people the SNES ruled (still have one hooked up to my HDTV next to the PS3, Wii, and Gamecube- for the GB Player).
I was locked into that game until I beat it (got every K-O-N-G, too). haven't beat the time trials yet though. Between that, Mario Galaxy 2, Monster Hunter Tri., Kirby's epic Yarn, Other M, Sin & Punishment, and Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom I have logged some serious hours on the Wii... probably more than any other system I ever had before. Now I am playing Goldeneye (it is great) and still need to get to No More Heroes 2. Oh yeah, I started the year with NSMBWii!
I did not expect it at all but I will say it again; the Wii won 2010.
right on Troll_Police, I totally forgot about console failure rate! Great point.
Yup, how this article missed motion control is beyond me..
You gotta love the plethora of game releases that cause the prices to fall so fast! There has never been a better time to pick up great games at value prices (trust me, I have been gaming since the Intellivision 2).
Picked this up for the PS3. Now I will wait for Vanquish and Infinate Space to drop and work on my Platinum Games library.
I agree... Bottom line brass tacks- Wii won 2010.
Makes sense.
It will be interesting to see when a downloadable game finally wins game of the year... somewhere by someone. If it weren't for so many great exclusives (like those on this list) Pac Man Champ. DX, Super Meat Boy, Cave Story, Plants Vs. Zombies, or Shantae might have had a shot.
The Mario RPG's? Mario and Luigi's and Paper Mario's....
They're pretty orange
Tell me something I don't know....
Yep. Ryu is the poster boy but Chun Li is the favorite.
Agreed. There should have been an MK character in the top 10... Plus, no one from Virtua Fighter at all?
I was hoping for the HD collection announcement too... What, it took them 2 weeks to program the website, that's why we had a countdown?
The Wii is on fire this year. Everything form Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom and Monster Hunter Tri to this and DKC Returns (from Retro studios, remember) and Epic Mickey yet to come. I know I have said this before on N4G but seriously 2010 belongs to the Wii... who would have thunk it?
Yup, Legends of Zelda rules... Also, that is a pretty kicky NES he must have to get that Ms. Pacman screenshot off of it.
