It's sad to see this game with masses of repeat textures when on the PS3 it could have had a mega texture!

The numbering refers to the game engine, the GTA III Game engine powered GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas.
The next GTA will use the name of the city/region, and if it does return to Vice City or San Andreas it will include a title, as the per precedent set by Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories!

Vice City & San Andreas shared the GTA III game engine and so were still part of the GTA III iteration.
It will be names after the location, IE: GTA London.
