I think it is going to be new by upgrading the previously used Smash engine.....but an all new designed game.
Didn't Namco have a hand in the Wii U and 3DS versions?....I am pointing out more that Namco isn't listed. Just speculating here....
I understand, that could still be a new sequel using a modified or upgraded previous Smash Bros. engine right? And this would be 4 years later so it makes an even better case for a sequel.
This is what is listed at the bottom of the page on the official website for the Switch Smash Bros...(smashbros.com):

:)
I've always wanted to play it but never got around to. Make it happen on Switch!!!
That's the one I want!!!! :)
Nintendo gets mad love (outside of N4G)...lol
“Right now we’re just at the stage where we revealed this game, but I’ve been working on this game in silence day after day,” Sakurai tweeted, according to a translation from fan site SourceGaming. “Please wait until we can release more information, or until release day!”
And they called it a sequel.... ;)
Exactly, no Bandai is listed who had a hand in the Wii U and 3DS Smashes.
Crash on Switch is $39.99 now on Amazon pre-order....
Region free. ;p
The article states 90 million copies of Grand Theft Thriller V have been sold...lol. Maybe Switch can get the standard PS4 version if this upgraded 4K version is true?
It's going to be a new game. If it was a port, wouldn't it already have a name like "Super Smash Bros. for Switch" like the Wii U and 3DS versions are named respectively?
Thanks!
Until Pokemon. ;p
Exactly, because Xbox One X is the most superior tech wise but they want to still call that generation 8....lol. Switch in generation 8 and kicking Xbox's booty.
Technically all three released upgrades: Switch, PS4 Pro and Xbox One X (the One X being the most powerful). So the lines are blurred. It's all generation 8!
I love that picture, an unforgettable "future-classic" moment in Nintendo announcement history.
I am hoping the original GameCube release is coming to Switch for the online launch.
It will sell just as much as (Wii U + 3DS combined). But if it is new or "new enough to feel new" it can surpass that. If the online and local multiplayer is on point....wow...just imagine a perfectly portable full console quality Smash Bros.? :)
Thank you, agreed! :)
