I think we're already "there" really, in as far as it's going to go. Certain types of game are only present on pc, and most 3rd party (western) games go to PC as well. I love my consoles and their exclusives but I can see a lot of people not needing consoles at all. That's cool too.

I don't think anyone thinks it's unique to games. I do think games add up to a perfect storm for harassment and other douchbaggery though as we have so many of the necessary skill sets ingrained in many of us as a group, the tech and social tech prowess, and many of us have been trolling in some form or another for some time. Our hobby just means we likely have a higher (though still tiny) percentage of "capable" abusive nutjobs than another group would.

Ars Technica are pretty big tbh. Its not surprising they'd pick up on a story like this.
I'm pretty sure they don't actually, you know.. Hate games. Some of them have critique and ideas. That's healthy. We should welcome that and take it on board in a sensible manner. I haven't seen any of them call for censorship or anything of that sort.
It'd be a terribly silly and complex medium to get involved in just to hate it.
