I thought the hack was done via the developer network.
Sony trusts their developers (1st and 3rd party) so once you're in the dev network you bypass a lot of the security.
I may have misunderstood though, I'm no expert.
It's a fair point. There's been loads of people claiming to know when it's back, getting our hopes up just to be disappointed.
LOL! Someone disagrees that I started this thread.
What are you like?? :D
Proof....

The response from MB is on page 3.
Don't try to take away my only claim to fame, lol
Lol! It was me who started that thread on PS forum, and MB answered! :)
Huge success!
Thanks for posting :)
I'm a bit disappointed by the lack of communication from Sony. All we want is a quick daily update just saying when they roughly think it'll be back.
The blog and twitter feeds have fallen silent.
I work in IT and when one of our systems goes down it is a priority 1 fault and we HAVE to give updates every 2 hours.
Lastest update I got from was from MusterBuster on the PS forum here....

I tried it using a "Live CD". It was okay I suppose.
You want Linux? Put it on your PC/laptop, I'll run so much better :)
They're probably quite worried, what with the FBI and DHS getting involved.
Me too. REALLY hope they can track them down.
Sadly when PSN is back up it's gonna get attacked again, I reckon.
Hackers will test the new security. Even hackers who weren't previously interest with PSN might try it.
Hope the new security measures are good :)
Not watching.... want to play spoiler free :)
My comment got removed as "trolling" for saying that.
I thought it was just a lighthearted joke, but someone took offense.
Good luck :)
Pew pew pew! Pew pew!
Lol! Sorry, had to do it :)
Very interesting.
So Sony DID have security measures in place, 3 firewalls, encryted card numbers etc. But some clever exploit (SQL Injection?) bypassed it all.
Reading comments on the source site it sounds like the sort of attack that many websites/networks could fall foul of, and very difficult to detect. So Sony did well to spot it at all.
People shouldn't be so hard on Sony, this could happen to almost anyone (if it's as c...
Sorry, don't believe this story.
On a positive note, PSN back this week! Yay!! :D
Good to know, thanks.
I'll stop checking PSN every hour now, because I doubt it will be back up before the press conference.
I'm hoping he ends the conference with "Once again, sincerest apologies.... PSN is now UP!!" and flicks a big switch (all dramatic and theatrical ) :)
I think this will blow over soon, once PSN is back.
The main panic is over though isn't it? Credit card details were encrpyted, so only a very skillful hacker would have any chance of been able to de-fraud anyone.
That's a HUGE relief :D
They could have told us that part very early on though. Surely they knew the credit card data was encrpyted, they didn't need an external security firm to tell them that.
Hoping this will blow over pretty soon, and we can all forget about this hacking rubbish and start talking about games again.
Not even gonna click that link!
